Chicago Cubs infielder Christopher Morel will not be in the lineup Wednesday against the St. Louis Cardinals due to tightness in his right hamstring, according to manager David Ross.
Morel was scratched from Tuesday's game against the Cardinals after experiencing discomfort during batting practice.
Ross said Morel is scheduled to play in a rookie-level game on Wednesday to test out his hamstring.
The 23-year-old Morel is batting .283 with seven home runs and 32 RBIs in 73 games this season.
He has been one of the Cubs' most consistent hitters this season, and his absence will be a blow to the team's offense.
The Cubs are hoping that Morel's hamstring tightness is not serious and that he can return to the lineup soon.
